dr.xnlb: mixes

Oscillatortek

Back in early 2000s, I really got into a new sound being innovated by the likes of Machine Drum, Prefuse 73, Kid606, Original Hamsta, and many others. I called this sound Tek-Hop.

In 2003, after releasing two other Tek-Hop mixes, and in celebration of the first ever ezRPM showcase at Back Booth, I reprised and expanded these mixes into an 80 minute live onslaught of hip-hop fueled IDM madness.

I recently uploaded this mix to the site, but since I back-dated it to the day/month/year of the original performance, it is not going to show up in the podcast feed, hence the little bump here. If you like what you hear here, check out Tek Hop 1 and Tek Hop 2 as well.

Enjoy it.

xenlab birthday party at park ave cds - 2007

Here is a recording of me playing at Park Ave CDs for my special birthday dj set. Due to technical difficulties, Traktor 3 crashed on me twice at this gig. This is the 3rd part of the set, and represents the last 23 minutes of my 2 hour set. I hope you like it.

download mix

  1. alGARhythm - Burn Barner
  2. Chocolate Weasel - Dub for Lazy Loafers
  3. Bushwacked vs Osymyso - Bush Speech (Slushalod Mix)
  4. Trey Parker / Matt Stone - America, Fuck Yeah (Bummer mix)
  5. David Axelrod - Song of Innocence
  6. Wicked - No One Mourns The Wicked
  7. The Story of Xentrix

Because of these crashes, I re-recorded the set the next day. Polyvibe Records is podcasting it from their site. Subscribe to their podcast to get it.

caffe da vinci is this unique coffee house / antique store / art gallery in deland, fl. gar bailey booked the gig, as he had some of his art being showcased there. this set is as eccentric as caffe da vinci is, as it starts out as moody cotemplative dark set, but strives to be a four-on-the-floor, summer party mix towards the end. wierd samples and voice overs abound in this set.

imagine coming in from Omicron Perseii 8 on the soul plane. now imagine that i could create this mental image with a dj set. if you’re with me so far, and didn’t get turned off by the weak metaphor, then you have a vauge idea of what to expect. the set starts off with a rare mr. spock gem from 1967, and as you desend thru the atmosphere of space age psychedelia, you will bump to some classic energetic tracls until you come to stop on the hip hop run way. please ensure your seats and tray backs are in the full and upright position… or something.

this mix was recorded live at Will’s Pub, in Orlando, FL, in support of the Future Funk Collective’s new self-titled debut album out on Polyvibe Records.
