Fox on Fire

14Aug07

In 2004, the promotion company I co-founded, was asked to put together a showcase for the Florida Music Festival. Instead of performing a DJ set, I set out to write 45 minutes of original music. Many of those early experiments are posted on this site. I continued working on music though the beginning of 2005.

Then, nothing.

I guess I was busy, and the few gigs I could squeeze in, I ended up DJing for. Mostly because the tracks I wrote seemed a little dated (even though I still like some of them), and it was easier to prepare for a DJ gig than it was to write music.

Then in March 2007, I got inspired again to work on some new tracks. The first of those is presented here.

Fox on Fire, is a contemplative downtempo exploration. It was one of my first successful attempts at writing my own original melodies, as opposed to sampling them from loops. The drums are subtle but earnest. And the vocal samples give it a cool pseudo-tribal feel.

This is the original full length version, a minute or three longer than is probably necessary to get the point across. :)

Post a comment, and tell me what you think.
