Demonoid is down, but is it out?

Demonoid.com Offline

I had been kind of hearing the rumors, but today a couple of articles came forward with a bit of information that seems to confirm that Demonoid.com, a semi-private bittorrent tracker, has been taken offline. Torrent Freak is fingering the CRIA, the Canadian Equivalent Representative of the RIAA (but more ethical, eh). This comes not soon after they moved the servers to Canada, to avoid investigation in the Netherlands - the original home for their servers. Demonoid’s only admin, Deimos, has not said one way or the other what happened, even to Demonoid staff.

Maybe they got too sloppy with their open enrollments?

*UPDATE*

So far it seems that the sites that broke this story, including the articles that are linked here, maybe have jumped the gun about the CRIA’s involvement and it may just be a false rumor. (I guess TorrentFreak has kind of bad reputation for this). However, the site is still down. It’s pingable, but all ports seem to have been firewalled. Its unlikely, in my opinion, that the servers would remain up if the ISP was ordered to bring them offline.

It seems more likely that the recent move to make the last two weeks of uploaded torrents completely available to the public could have just overwhelmed the servers. And to shut down public access, while remaining on the network is a plausible, if unproven, theory. Especially when you consider the site in question - its not like the users are going to sue over quality of service issues, right?

Kalx - Live at Stardust - Orlando, FL - 09.26.2007

Kalx is performing at Stardust tonight. His earlier work can be compared to such contemporaries as Aphex Twin or Richard Devine. But while you can say it is inspired by these artists, his work is in no way derivative.

Kalx is probably most known for his ‘Secret Album’ myspace bomb, in which he posted a profile to lure users to discover Afx Twin’s Secret Album - a clever update of the Napster bomb he used to market his 2005’s 10162003b album on iTunes. The comments on the iTunes page are funny enough to warrant a look.

There is no cover for tonight’s show.

Flea Market Montgomery Rap (Pet Shop Boys Version)

Most of us probably missed the original, since I doubt very many readers watch Ellen Degeneres’ talk show (I love her stand up), but she brought some national attention to one of those insane late night commercials.

Fellow Snuggler, Pimpdaddysumpreme has created a quality mash-up (a rarity these days) of this, and just released the video. It’s also available in Hi-Res.
