Beck will be releasing a new single exclusively on iTunes on Monday. It will hit other digital stores a week later. Its just one song, but it should be a dozy. Those who have heard it, say its from the ‘Information’ era, his latest full length.
However, the biggest surprise is that Jamie Lidell and Beck have been in the studio together working on… something amazing. Personally, I can’t wait.

In even bigger news, the owner and founder of the Russian quasi-legal-for-everyone-but-their-customers digital music store, AllofMP3.com was found not guilty in a Russian court on charges of copy right infringement.
“The prosecution did not succeed in presenting persuasive evidence of his involvement in infringing copyright law,” said judge Yekaterina Sharapova
The site has been basically unworkable for American users for at least 6 months or more, as their credit card processor crippled the funding options in which to buy credits with. Credits were then used on the site to download cheap (on the order of 10¢ per song) MP3s of popular and major label releases.
All of MP3 complied with all applicable local laws, including paying royalties to the Russian equivalent of ASCAP and BMI. However, the RIAA and other industry folks used the World Trade Organization and other international trade groups to pressure the Russian government into doing something about it. This court case was a part of their response.
Even though AllofMP3 seems to be dead, all assets of the former company have been assigned to a new site: MP3sparks.com. Just the next step up in this cops-and-robbers approach to dealing with internet piracy.

Whoa, after reading this article from the New Times in Broward-Palm Beach, maybe I should go give Park Ave CDs some love.
The article found that while most of the chains *cough*Tower Records*cough* are closing across the country, and some of the indie stores are succumbing to p2p and internet orders, there are quite a few from “Miami to Delray Beach” are holding on and even thriving and expanding. In fact, Radio-Active Records (formerly CD Collector) found an entire walled in back-room and opened up the space for more in-store concerts and events. Sounds a lot like what Orlando’s PACD just recently went through - expanding to include more live shows + shelf space. Life is good.
A record store should be a community center, a “cultural outpost” if you will. The ones surviving the internet age, are doing just that. So go show some love to your local, and buy a CD for a change.
