“It’s altogether possible that *NSYNC’s first-week record will never be broken. Imagine if this boy band goes down in history not just for launching Justin Timberlake but also for marking the very peak of the hit bubble, the last bit of manufactured pop to use the twentieth century’s fine-tuned marketing machine to its fullest, before the gears were stripped and the wheels fell off.”

- Chris Anderson

– From The Long Tail

The Long Tail

I finally picked up this book, and for everything I already knew about it; from the blog, and the original article in Wired - the main course (i.e. the book) has blown my mind on every one of the 32 pages that I have gotten to so far. Each passage has inspired me - whether to fire off emails to friends who are in niche businesses (like this one, or this one), or take notes for my own upcoming projects - and I can’t believe that this is just the beginning. I find myself applying the Long Tail framework to everything around me… including places I didn’t expect it to show up, such as spirituality and cross-comparative religious studies. The economies of abundance, one of the concepts from the book, will completely transform everything, including humanity itself.

James Brown

You rocked an entire world and inspired multiple generations (with many more yet to be rocked and inspired). I miss you already, Mr. James Brown. I bet god is happier now, to have the Godfather of Soul back with her.

“JAMES BROWN is a concept, a vibration, a dance, It’s not me, the man. JAMES BROWN is a freedom I created for humanity.”

– from the liner notes of the James Brown box set, Star Time.

In honor of Gar Bailey’s new album, “Reinventing The Orange” being released on Polyvibe Records - We have assembled a solid posse of Gar’s favorite homeboys and audio artists to celebrate the occasion and do it up proper.

This crack team of skilled musicians, deejays, and technicians will provide a full range of aural experiences, and challenge what you know about music.

At the end of the night, we will join forces for an all-star jelly jam explosion of epic proportions. WIth over 10 sonic sculptors at the helm, including me, a_scissors, mr. antonym, drone operator, and tel aviv bats, this event is not to be missed!

Join us, January 20th 2007 at Caffe daVinici in Historic Downtown Deland. This combination antique shop, coffee house, art gallery and music venue, is one of the most unique venues Central Florida has to offer. Trust me, this place will get packed, so get there early (9pm). [ Map and Directions ]
