alGARhythm brings the heat *updated*

Update: Gar tweaked the recording, removed some parts that were overloaded and generally tidied  it up with some minor edits.

Oh, and Bao Le-Huu from the Orlando Weekly had this to say:

On Aug. 7, one-man act AlGARrhythm, on local imprint Polyvibe Records, delivered a decent performance at Back Booth. From behind a small arsenal of electronics, his button-pushing and knob-twisting produced limber compositions moved by the fluid, bass-thick rhythms that Yip-Yip, sadly, seems to have moved away from. Not that he’s got much competition, but he’s one of the more entertaining solo electronic acts in town.

Holy Midi Signals, Batman!

alGARhythm tore the roof off the joint last night, as he performed his last live show of the summer. This one man modulator brought some massive heat to the Back Booth stage in support of S.A.F. Records’ artists: Yip-Yip and The Show is the Rainbow. I was on hand to record his set, and boy is it a smoker.

alGARhythm has a record on Polyvi.be right now called “Reinventing The Orange“. If Negativland and The Orb had a threesome with Salvador Dali, this music would be their baby. Gar Bailey, the man behind the machines, makes densely layered funky IDM with a kick ass midi chain of 4 drum machines, a couple of synths, and a few samplers, and loads of outboard FX. And this set shows him at the top of his game. This is the kind of magic that only one of Orlando Weekly’s 2007 Best of Awards winners can create.

Gar Lives! Indeed.

P.S. - The Band of The Rainbow was very entertaining. His crazed mix of original, but pre-recorded music (which was good), weird video compilations (including him standing in the shower addressing the crowd - i.e. me and everyone else in attendance that night), and his post-punk lyricism came across as Kevin Smith, channeling Jack Black, playing Velvet Underground covers. If he plays in your town, go see him.
